    Upsilon Gallery seeks a full-time Sales Director to work alongside the Managing Director to promote our artists and grow our collector base. Candidate's responsibilities will include driving sales across all gallery channels.

    The Ideal Candidate Will Have The Following Qualifications:
    •    BA in Art History and/or Arts Administration, and at least 5 years of sales experience in an international art gallery, museum, or auction house.
    •    Proven ability to meet annual sales goal required.
    •    Direct hands-on experience with, and knowledge of Modern, Post-war and Contemporary art.
    •    Strong familiarity with client database systems, i.e. Artlogic.
    •    Meticulous organization in client follow up.
    •    A self-starter with the ability to solve complex problems under tight deadlines and challenging situations.
    •    Must have access to an existing collector base and art world network.
    •    Driven, go-getter attitude with an ability to follow through with clients, always focusing on closing the sale.
    •    Detail oriented with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
    •    Strong sales background.
    •    Superior communication skills, both spoken and written.
    •    Proven IT skills in all areas, including Microsoft Office Suite, with the aptitude to learn additional programs as needed.
    •    Personable, well spoken, and should be experienced and comfortable accommodating high-end clientele.

    Location: Upper East Side gallery
    Compensation: Base salary + commission

    Primary responsibilities include:
    •    Draft and oversee consignment and loan agreements.
    •    Coordinate domestic and international shipments.
    •    Responsible for understanding customs and tax regulations and requirements for shipping artworks internationally.
    •    Compile, process, and manage records of all associated shipping paperwork in accordance with New York State Sales Tax     requirements.
    •    Work with Head Art Handler and artist studios to determine best packing and handling procedures and communicate requirements     to shipping companies.
    •    Conduct incoming and outgoing condition inspections.
    •    Courier artwork internationally for select loans and traveling exhibitions.

    Requirements:
    •    BA (Art History, Administration, Studio Arts preferred).
    •    5+ years experience in a museum, gallery, or art institution.
    •    Must have experience with domestic and international fine art shipping and logistics.
    •    Familiarity with various mediums of artwork; working knowledge of conservation techniques a plus.
    •    Must be extremely detail-oriented and able to work on multiple projects at once.

  • Gallery Assistant

    We are looking for a Gallery Assistant to join our team in New York. The Gallery Assistant should have affinity for the arts, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and be able to provide a welcoming experience for visitors and guests.

    This position requires attention to detail, organization, diplomacy and willingness to learn gallery history and the art industry. The Gallery Assistant is expected to plan, communicate and act independently and collaboratively, as projects require.

    Front Desk

    • Provide administrative support to Sales Team Directors
    • Maintain gallery traffic by assisting with phones, email and visiting public
    • Coordinate the incoming and outgoing art related shipments of resources such as books, sales packs and photographs.
    • Maintain exhibition displays, materials and signage
    • Manage updating address entries in internal database.
    • Provide support in ordering office equipment and supplies
    • Assist with travel and lodging arrangements for visiting staff and artists

    Exhibition & Events

    • Assist with art fair and gallery exhibition preparations
    • Support exhibition related events such as tours, press previews and receptions
    • Compile guest lists for exhibition opening events
    • Supervise distribution of invitations, RSVPs, and guest lists
    • Organize gallery openings and exhibition related events
    • Assist with any promotional and marketing events and activities

    Requirements

    • A minimum of 2 year’s experience in an art gallery, museum, retail or hospitality field.
    • 5-day work week, with overtime as required; flexible schedule with weekend availability
    • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
    • You love to work collaboratively
    • Knowledge of and passion for modern and contemporary art
    • Exceptional visitor service skills and a friendly demeanor
    • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and willingness to learn new programs as necessary
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Superior organizational skills with ability to prioritize and multitask
    • Adobe skills are a plus
