London, UK – Upsilon Gallery is pleased to present Summer Show 2025, a group presentation bringing together works by leading international modern and contemporary artists whose practices explore the expressive potential of colour, material and mark-making.
Featuring a dynamic and intergenerational roster of artists, including Yayoi Kusama, Damien Hirst, Yoshitomo Nara, Nicolas Carone, Osvaldo Mariscotti, Imi Knoebel, Julian Opie, Bridget Riley, Uwe Kowski, Bernd Zimmer, Beatriz Milhazes, Grayson Perry, Francine Tint, Willem de Kooning and Henry Moore, the presentation shows a discerning selection of works that move fluidly between abstraction and figuration, structure and intuition.
The presentation opens with Yayoi Kusama’s instantly recognisable pumpkin motif, rendered with her signature polka dots set against fields of infinity nets - a timeless symbol of both childhood nostalgia and formal precision. This is followed by Yoshitomo Nara’s mischievous little girl, whose expressive scowl and wide-set eyes strike a
delicate balance between innocence and defiance. Equally emblematic is Damien Hirst’s iconic composition of coloured dots, which rhythmically bridges conceptual rigour and chromatic exuberance.
From there, the installation unfolds in a dialogue of geometry and gesture. The optical linearity of Bridget Riley and the architectonic patterning of Osvaldo Mariscotti offer compelling studies in control and engagement. From Willem de Kooning’s gestural abstraction to Beatriz Milhazes’ layered ornamental compositions, each work contributes to a broader exploration of colour as both structure and sensation.
Another significant thread running through the presentation is the treatment of abstraction as a diverse and evolving language. Nicolas Carone, a pivotal figure in post-war American abstraction, brings a lyrical expressiveness shaped by his engagement with both Abstract Expressionism and classical draftsmanship. Francine Tint’s intuitive canvases radiate energy, negotiating the space between immediacy and compositional intention. Uwe Kowski and Bernd Zimmer, key voices in contemporary German abstraction, each present a distinct sensibility in fleeting impressions and evocations of remembered landscapes.
Whether a seasoned collector or a curious viewer, Summer Show 2025 invites audiences to experience an presentation that balances intellectual depth with visual pleasure, presenting art that reflects the light, warmth and imaginative freedom of the summer season.
Upsilon Gallery is located at 64 Grosvenor Street, Mayfair, London, W1K 4PZ. Presentation hours are Tuesday to Saturday 10:00 AM-6:00 PM, Monday 10AM-6PM & by appointment. Please contact the gallery at 020 7629 1525 or email at london@upsilongallery.com for further details.
