Tokyo Gendai: PACIFICO Yokohama

Upsilon Gallery is pleased to announce its debut participation in Tokyo Gendai 2026, presenting a focused selection of works by Nicolas Carone (1917–2010), Osvaldo Mariscotti (b. 1960), and Ryoko Endo (b. 1951).

Marking the gallery's first presentation in Japan, the booth brings together three artists whose practices reflect the continued evolution of abstraction across generations. It also marks Nicolas Carone's first presentation in Japan in over five decades while introducing Osvaldo Mariscotti's work to the Japanese public for the first time. Carone's pivotal contribution to the New York School provides the historical foundation of the presentation, while Mariscotti's investigations of colour, rhythm, and geometry offer a contemporary continuation of abstraction's formal possibilities. Completing the presentation, Ryoko Endo's paintings synthesise the traditions of Japanese sumi ink calligraphy with the gestural language of Western abstraction, offering a perspective shaped by both Japanese and American artistic traditions.

Together, the presentation reflects Upsilon Gallery's commitment to placing historical and contemporary voices in dialogue, foregrounding abstraction as a continually evolving practice shaped by artistic exchange, material experimentation, and individual expression.
