New York Gallery Upsilon to open flagship space in Mayfair, founded by Marcelo Zimmler in New York in 2016, Upsilon specialises in abstraction and champions historically overlooked as well as emerging artists, amplifying marginalised voices in the art world.

We are incredibly excited to open our new gallery in Mayfair, marking the next stage in Upsilon’s growth and development. This historic area, home to some of the world’s most prominent galleries and auction houses, offers a vibrant and prestigious setting for us to introduce our diverse roster of artists to new audiences. We look forward to bringing something fresh and innovative to the London art scene, reflecting our commitment to both rediscovered and emerging talents’

- Marcelo Zimmler, Founder of Upsilon Gallery

Upsilon particularly focuses on European artists who have migrated to the US within movements such as Minimalism, Colour Field, Pop, and Abstract Expressionism. You may have seen their booth at the London Original Print Fair earlier in the year – they were one of the new international exhibitors.

This will be Upsilon’s first international location, joining outposts in New York and Miami. Located at 64 Grosvenor Street in Mayfair, the 3,000 sq ft space will host exhibitions, talks, and book signings. It will be led by Managing Director Nolan Browne, who has previously held roles at TASCHEN, White Cube and Philips, and is known for his podcast ‘A Life Curated’.

I am thrilled to lead the Upsilon team in London and to establish our new space in the heart of Mayfair. Our goal is to create a welcoming and accessible environment, welcoming both established and aspiring collectors, as well as London’s art lovers.

- Nolan Browne

The inaugural exhibition, running from 19th August to 21st September 2024 will be a dynamic group show, featuring the gallery’s core artists. It will present a kaleidoscope of vibrant, colourful, and celebratory works that highlight Upsilon’s international and thematic approach. The exhibition will showcase works by a stellar lineup of artists, including Italian-American Osvaldo Mariscotti, American talents Francine Tint, Willard Boepple, Susan Roth, Nicolas Carone, Duane Bousfield, and Stephen Bezas, German painter Bernd Zimmer, Colombian sculptor Edgar Negret, Chinese-born German artist Xinyan Zhang, German-American artist Ali Eckert and British painter Clyde Hopkins.

Forthcoming Exhibition Programme

In September, Upsilon London will expand the inaugural group exhibition by featuring works by American artist Susan Roth, a new collaborator with the gallery. This will be followed by an exhibition and book signing dedicated to Paris-based Russian photographer Vlad Zorin, unveiling his highly anticipated new body of work “With Love from France.” Zorin’s artistic language, shaped by his analysis of male sexuality and sensuality in a totalitarian and homophobic Russia, has led to protest and uncompromising projects that explore themes of personal freedom and the experiences of a new generation.

In October, the gallery will present an exhibition dedicated to Osvaldo Mariscotti, highlighting the past 20 years of his prolific career from the early 2000s to the present day. Mariscotti, an acclaimed printmaker, painter, and sculptor, has been creating iconic images for over four decades, earning international recognition. His dedication to exploring the interaction of form and color has led to a continued investigation into perception. This exhibition will feature paintings, sculptures, works on paper, and prints, celebrating Mariscotti’s Italian inspiration and artistic evolution.

The year will conclude with an all-female group show opening in December, featuring artists such as Francine Tint, Xinyan Zhang, Ioanna Gouma, and Tracey Emin.
