Stephen Bezas offers an intimate, first-person tour of his current duo exhibition at Upsilon Gallery in New York, ONE 1 : Stephen Bezas & Jasper Johns. Bezas shares the thinking behind the distinctive “Alphabets” that appear throughout his paintings, revealing how these visual languages developed over time.
Taught by renowned artist Chuck Close, Bezas developed a disciplined and conceptual approach to image-making early in his career. Reflecting on his creative path, Bezas discusses his early interest in architecture and interior design, and how those disciplines shaped his sensitivity to structure, space, and rhythm. These foundations ultimately led him toward pointillism and the abstract painting practice that defines his work today.
