Frank Stella
Master of Reinvention
Upsilon Gallery is pleased to present "Master of Reinvention," a solo artist OVR dedicated to the late American artist Frank Stella. In addition to his early minimalist work, from the late 1950s and 1960s, and his later efforts to disrupt the accepted norms of painting, Stella made groundbreaking achievements in the print medium, combining printmaking processes, mining new sources for imagery, and expanding the technical capacity of the press.
Stella began making prints in the late 1960s, working first with master printer Kenneth Tyler at Gemini G.E.L. Stella began with lithography, making prints that expanded upon formal concerns he explored in his paintings. In 1973 he had a print studio installed in his house. Stella employed a vast array of techniques in his editions, including screenprinting, lithography, linoleum block, collage and hand coloring. This curated online exhibition looks to give a comprehensive overview of the artist's printmaking practice through a selection of 12 prints. -
