Lu Gan (b.1998) is a painter whose practice blends personal memories with her immediate surroundings. Drawing on fragmented thoughts, fleeting everyday encounters, and an ongoing study of the psyche, Gan composes visual fields that exists between experience and imagination, imbued with a subtle sense of unease. Born in China, she harks back to instinctive drawing habits rooted from her childhood, using simple lines to outline and define forms while intentionally preserving each brushstroke on the canvas, allowing the process of painting to remain visible.
Her paintings compress and contort perspective, ebbing and flowing between familiarity and abstraction. Through shifting spatial relationships and fluid compositions, the canvases invite viewers to re-experience the world from a perspective that diverges from conventional logic. The world appears open, in flux, and perpetually unresolved.
Gan holds a BA in painting from Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts and MA in Painting from Royal College of Art, where she was the Ali H. Alkazzi Scholar.
Gan lives and works between London, UK, and Shenzhen, China.
