You Fit Me Better: Solo Show

Upsilon Gallery Milan presents You Fit Me Better, a solo exhibition by Croatian artist Matija Čop. The exhibition takes place concurrently with Cycle’s Jeans Pop-up, presenting the brand’s Spring/Summer 2027 collection at the gallery during Milan Fashion Week 2026.

Matija Čop presents a selection of sculptural works and works on paper that reflect, both formally and conceptually, some of the central elements of his practice: translation, relationships, and construction through interlocking.

Made from ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA), the sculptures translate personal sound recordings into soft, three-dimensional columnar forms. Each module corresponds to the physical translation of a fragment of sound drawn from an intimate exchange between the artist and his partner: spoken words, as well as the silent languages bodies share beyond verbal communication. The works themselves evoke the profile of a sound wave, giving physical presence to something that, by its very nature, belongs to the ephemeral.

The elements composing each sculpture are neither glued nor sewn together, but held exclusively through a complex process of manual interlocking developed by the artist. The individual modules support one another through a system of intersections that allows them to connect precisely while retaining their autonomy. The structure thus emerges from a balance between its individual parts, transforming the construction process into a metaphor for the relationship itself: a bond that neither imposes nor constrains, but finds its stability through mutual correspondence.

The intersection thus becomes a symbol of the union between the artist and his partner: a connection in which two individual identities remain distinct while supporting one another. The same principle extends to the works on paper, in which independent layers of intricately cut paper are superimposed and brought into relation until they form a single body. Through these processes, Čop gives tangible form to what ordinarily escapes physical representation, translating sound, intimacy, and human connection into material presence.

You Fit Me Better reflects on the nature of human connection, exploring how two distinct entities intersect and come together as one. Within the context of Milan Fashion Week, this reflection opens to the notion of clothing as an extension of the body, where material participates in the construction and expression of identity.
