Jenny Lewis is a London-based award-winning artist whose lens-based practice spans 25 years and, more recently, incorporates printmaking and installation. She is interested in themes of transition, loss and reconnection, disrupting and reassembling the language and constraints of photography. Much of Lewis’ practice is rooted in intimate engagement with her local community.
In recent years, Lewis has turned to unseen and underrepresented aspects of women’s lives, from birth to menopause. UnBecoming (2024) documents and conceptualises her experience living with a chronic invisible illness while simultaneously navigating the unknown territory of menopause. Her newest project, Autoimmune x Autophoto (2026), extends this inquiry, gathering voices that share a crip perspective.
Lewis’ projects have been exhibited nationally and internationally, including at the National Portrait Gallery, London; Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool; Photo Oxford and Photo 22, Melbourne. In the UK, her works are in the permanent collections of the National Portrait Gallery, Wellcome Collection, Walker Collection, Pallant House Gallery, Chichester, among others. Her monographs, published by Hoxton Mini Press, are held at the Glasgow Women’s Library; the Tate Library; and the Women’s Art Library, London. Jenny has completed a number of editorial commissions for clients including ID, The Times, Sotheby’s, Vogue, Universal Music Group, DAZED, WaterAid and many others.
